“West Side Story”, the (promising) trailer for the remake

The same story, the same place, the same rivalry between men and cultures. The same names and the same promise of a love that can find its accurate story in music. West Side Story, in the version now directed by Steven Spielberg, has not undergone major upheavals in the re-adaptation process. Not apparently, at least. In the trailer, the second released by Disney, Maria, the Maria of Rachel Zegler, and Tony, the face of Ansel Elgort, seem to be what they once were: the Romeo and Juliet of a New York now forgotten, the poles of a relationship that is the family, never the heart, to hinder.

The one Puerto Rican, the other Yankee, seem to have preserved the spirit of the original musical, the same elegance of the gestures and dances, of the songs – again great protagonists of the film. In the trailer, only one is heard. But the formation of the opposing factions, the Puerto Ricans and the Americans, are enough to evoke the music of the past, which Disney will bring back to theaters on December 16th.
