On-demand work is not exactly a novelty as an occupation model. In it, there is no boss figure, and what defines the worker’s remuneration is how much he works. But technology has incorporated new elements into this dynamic, and applications have revamped the flexible working model.
The transformation of employees into on-demand workers has caused a knot in labor laws and, in many cases, it has become difficult to define who is or is not a worker, or when, in fact, self-employment is really synonymous with entrepreneurship and when it really is , sign of a precariousness of jobs.
In this episode of Entre Vozes, Luciana Barreto presents an overview of changes in the job market. Motoboy Paulo Roberto da Silva Lima, known as Galo, describes the routine of app deliverers who exchanged their dreams of professional achievement for the urgency of paying the bills at the end of the month. And sociologist Ludmila Costhek Abílio, a researcher at Unicamp, points out the challenges that governments need to face in order to deal with changes in labor relations.
