The next moves to strengthen its eMarket are currently being prepared by the Greek Sklavenitis Supermarkets, as sources with knowledge of the subject report to Capital.gr.
In particular, the company that operates through the online store in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras and Larissa is preparing a new darkstore in the capital in order to meet the growing needs.
In this context, the company has acquired a property in Kifissia, which will be activated within the current year to create a new darkstore and the goal is to add another one in the near future also in Attica.
We remind you that Sklavenitis has already developed a new darkstore on Petrou Ralli Street, while it also maintains an auxiliary space for eMarket orders on Kleisthenous Street in Gerakas, which came from the acquisition of caremarket.
Sklavenitis currently serves more than 10,000 codes within the online store. As far as Thessaloniki is concerned, the company has already created a darkstore in Pylaia during 2021.
Currently eMarket for Sklavenitis is moving at market levels in proportion to the total turnover, ie between 2% -3%. Despite the estimated decline that can be recorded in online orders in our country after the end of the pandemic, the supermarket chain sees significant prospects in the long run for this particular sales channel.
The new stores it prepares in N. Philadelphia and Glyfada
As far as its physical stores are concerned, the company Sklavenitis is currently redefining its plan for renovations, given the increased energy costs that are a key parameter for the entire organized retail.
At the same time, however, invest in two key stores – due to location – new stores. One of them will be located in the old facilities of Mava (former Renault dealership of Alexandros Maniatopoulos).
The property in question received only yesterday the approval of the architectural study by the Central Council of Architecture, which paves the way for its construction. The second point concerns the creation of another store in the southern suburbs, specifically in Glyfada, where the Nova Cinema Odeon cinemas used to operate.
We will remind you that Sklavenitis already maintains in the wider area another store in Voula on Vassileos Pavlou Avenue as well as a supermarket at 174 Vouliagmenis Avenue and Prigipos Petrou, also in Glyfada.
The National Road store at the old Renault facility will be the chain’s 33rd supermarket, as it is added to the existing ones. The reason for stores with an area of more than 2,500 sq.m.

We remind you that in 2020 the parent company Hellenic Supermarkets Sklavenitis had recorded sales of 3.15 billion euros. Respectively, with the growth rate of 5% for 2021, the turnover moved to the level of 3.3 billion euros last year.
Large supermarket chains hold the scepter of growth
It is noted that at the market level and in terms of the different typologies of stores, the large rooms over 2,500 sq.m. (supermarket) where Sklavenitis maintains the largest number of points of sale against the competition, continued in 2021 to show the largest growth, of + 8.1% in their sales.
The smaller rooms, up to 400 sq.m., followed at a much more restrained pace. with a growth of + 1.5%, which means that buyers choose the smaller stores for their convenience, but also their daily shopping.
