WhatsApp arrives on iPad, concurrent operation confirmed on four devices

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart confirmed to WABetaInfo that the messaging app will allow users to access their chats across four devices. Will Cathcart added that WhatsApp will be coming to iPad.

Unlike WhatsApp Web, which requires an active connection on your primary device, this feature will be independent. Thus, if your main phone loses access to the Internet or the battery runs out, chats will still be available on other devices. “It was a daunting technical challenge to get all of your messages and content to sync properly across devices, even if your phone’s battery is dead, but we’ve addressed this issue.”

This feature will be provided to beta testers in the next month or two. The final version will be available to all WhatsApp users by the end of the year.

Will Cathcart noted that Apple tablet users have been asking for WhatsApp support on the iPad for years, and the new multi-platform feature will finally make it a reality.

Facebook, which owns WhatsApp, has officially stated that users who do not accept the updated policy will not see any limited functionality on WhatsApp.
