Like this Portugal whole, the capital Lisbon awaits us with a lot of history and gastronomic delights.
Known as the city of seven hills because of its slopes and hills, here we find important landmarks in the history of the territory at the same time that we surprised with the typical flavors of the country .
In the midst of this, we are also presented with a fancy hospitality : around the city there are hotels that combine refinement and comfort in easily accessible locations, close to the main points of Lisbon.
of the large luxury chains, who excel in service, up to boutique hotels, that guarantee a sophisticated intimacy, all have rooms with views to the best points of the city, refined cuisine and very welcome amenities in one of the most elegant and plural capitals in all of Europe.
Below, I highlight five hotels in the capital that reflect the best the city and the country have to offer:
Ritz Four Seasons Hotel
One of the best hotels in Lisbon, the Ritz Four Seasons takes the refined essence of the group’s good hospitality to the Portuguese capital.
Located in the heart of the city, just a few meters from the Edward VII Park Four Seadons has privileged views, like the park, to the Sao Jorge’s Castle and for the Tejo River .
The interior is also noteworthy: the hotel is filled with an extensive art collection, with original works and replicas ranging from Portuguese modern artist movements to blends between Art Deco and Louis XVI style.
Most of its more than 200 rooms and suites have private terraces and breathtaking views of the capital, and range from 42 m² to 247 m².
In the gastronomic area, the hotel serves a delicious prego, a typical Portuguese dish that consists of bread and meat that, by the way, is best enjoyed with a fries – and why not a drink too?
Among the hotel’s kitchens there is the Cure , which uses seasonal ingredients to create exquisite artisanal dishes; O Balcony , which serves brunch and lunch overlooking Parque Eduardo VII; it’s the the japanese which, as the name suggests, serves Japanese delicacies in an intimate setting.
The amenities include a rooftop terrace with a jogging track, two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor, and a spa. The service of the team is a priority, in which they can help us in the smallest details of the stay and the trip.

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade
One of the most famous hotels in Lisbon, the Tivoli is located on Avenida da Liberdade, which is one of the most central and important addresses in the entire Portuguese capital. Among designer stores and star-studded restaurants, the hotel stands out for having been a haven for world leaders and music and movie stars.
With over 80 years of tradition and within walking distance of emblematic neighborhoods such as Bairro Alto, Chiado and Príncipe Realthe Tivoli was recently renovated and still carries elegance in its rooms and common areas.
There are more than 200 rooms, which are divided into different categories, ranging from the deluxe rooms to the presidential suite, measuring 270 m². One of the unmissable points of the piece is the SEEN, trendy restaurant on the top floors that mixes Portuguese and Brazilian cuisine.
Above, the rooftop still holds the Sky Bar by SEEN , ideal for having an exquisite drink with amazing views of the center of Lisbon. In the wellness area, the hotel also stands out for its spa with the Anantara seal.

Bairro Alto Hotel
The hotel’s name already gives one of its best qualities: it is located between two charming districts of Lisbon, Chiado and Bairro Alto.
Located in full Luís de Camões Square right in front of a monument in honor of the author of “Os Lusíadas”, the boutique hotel opened its doors in 2005 and was reopened in 2019 after a renovation.
The building that houses the hotel was even home to the Grand Hotel de L’Europe until the 1980s, one of the most emblematic hotels that ever existed in the capital. Here, charm, sophistication and bohemian touches set the tone for service, rooms and common areas.
There are 87 rooms and suites, which overlook the square – the highest ones overlook the city and others face the Tagus River – and range from 18 to 70 m². With different textures, bedding and decoration, they carry modern touches amid an expression of Portuguese traits.
A pastry shop serves Portuguese pastries, sweets and savouries on the ground floor; the fifth floor houses the BAHR large space with bar and terrace with privileged views of Lisbon.
But it’s the rooftop that keeps some of the most breathtaking views of the Tagus with a menu of quick meals for everyday life. To complete the structure, the hotel also offers a wellness and fitness center.

Valverde Hotel
On the other side of Tivoli, also on Avenida da Liberdade, is the super charming Valverde, a boutique hotel that opened its doors in 2014 and is located behind a discreet door that almost goes unnoticed by our eyes. It’s like a hidden corner in the city that reserves intimacy and friendliness.
Here, the more intimate atmosphere prevails with its approximately 25 rooms and suites on six floors. With retro design and decor that connect the environments, vintage furniture and prints extend from the entrance to the rooms, where the various colors create a contrast with the softer tones of the fabrics.
It’s like an enlarged house. The accommodations are divided into different categories, from the deluxe rooms of 30 m² and the suites, which go up to 55 m² and have views of different points, such as the surrounding streets, the avenue and even São Jorge Castle.
the restaurant/bar Valverde Site is a signature cuisine by chef Carla Sousa, and the menu, which changes from time to time, focuses on Portuguese cuisine. In its 30 seats, all meals are served here.
Adjacent to the restaurant is the patio, an environment with vegetation and open space that invites reading, meetings and relaxation – the same invitation is also made by the hotel’s small pool, accompanied by chaises at its edges.

The Ivens Hotel
Surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars and galleries, the The Ivens it is located in the center of Lisbon, overlooking the Tagus and with the hustle and bustle of Chiado just a few meters away.
Rich in details, it occupies a 19th century building and several elements allude to the fauna and flora, whether in fabrics or engravings, as well as the use of wood dominates most environments.
Books and travel magazines and stories from various countries are scattered around the tables and shelves and representations of animals are on display in the decorations.
There are 87 rooms, which are divided into five categories, from standard to signature suites, which have a terrace and views of the river – there is even a penthouse with 150 m².
Opened last year, the hotel still has the Rocco , an interesting gastronomic space that brings together bar, gastrobar and restaurant. The centerpiece here is the bar, with a circular counter and a hanging wine rack.
From the kitchen come typical recipes from Italy and the Mediterranean, in which the decoration of the three environments is both intimate and bold. The service is attentive and the demand for this novelty is already high: if you can’t get a reservation, it’s worth having well-executed drinks at the bar.
