The Brazilian rapper Daniel Jikal 20, made waves on social media last Sunday (21) when he was featured in a report on Fantástico, on TV Globo, about the origin of K-pop a cultural and musical phenomenon, originating in South Korea, which has conquered the world in recent years.
In the East Asian country, the musician, who has Korean family, is one of the artists seeking success. “I moved here with the intention of becoming an artist,” he said.
In 2021, the young man, who spent much of his childhood in Brazil, participated in a reality show in Seoul that was looking for talent for a new K-pop group.
“I had to make a song in an hour. So, I was really nervous, I didn’t know what to do, but I said: ‘ah, let’s do something cool, something I do at home, let’s make some rhymes’”, he said.
At the time, Psy, considered the ‘king of K-pop’, was one of the judges of the competition. “I didn’t believe it, because it’s very different watching it on TV. I grew up a lot with Psy”, he recalled.
Despite advancing through the stages, the artist did not win the show, but upon returning to the United States, he received a phone call from the star who assured him: “I eliminated you because I want you to go as a solo, your talents will shine more as a solo.”
