Why Hyperconverged (HCI) Infrastructures? The answer is in Applications

The vast majority of technology-leading companies believe that the digital transformation of businesses / organizations has been accelerated by COVID-19, according to a recent study by WITH Technology Review study.

Investments continue and projects focus heavily on developing applications and services in strategies that require innovation in the cloud.

IDC (International Data Corporation) estimates that businesses will create 500 million new applications using cloud technologies by 2023. But the cloud alone is not enough. As applications become more complex, and their needs diverse and heterogeneous, IT comes up with different infrastructure strategies. IT teams need a more flexible approach to meeting business requirements. And that starts with coherence when developing new capabilities – for all environments. The Hyperconverged infrastructures (HCI) can easily offer this uniformity.

Hypercoverged infrastructure is a software defined model, which combines the elements of a traditional data center / storage, compute, network and management. HCI infrastructures also enhance flexibility and expand the range of options without the expensive – specially designed – hardware associated with a data center infrastructure. They also combine integrated software and x86 servers for:

  • Reduce the complexity of infrastructure

  • Increase flexibility

  • Achieve inherent security that will ensure the entire system

Why HCI;

Analysts at WITH Technology Review study, identified four main reasons why organizations adopt HCI infrastructure:

  • Simplifies infrastructure management.

  • Accelerates provisioning.

  • Supports strategy hybrid cloud.

  • Supports emerging technologies such as containers.

Initially, organizations chose HCIs to simplify infrastructure and speed up provisioning. Now, they see it as the foundation of the hybrid cloud for the effective expansion of their functions in data centers beyond their own. They are also interested in utilizing container technology to develop applications – quickly and easily – in multiple environments, assisted and automated through platforms such as Kubernetes.

The need for Full-Stack HCI

An HCI infrastructure is the new starting point for a complete, automated private cloud infrastructure. Customers typically use this private cloud as a starting point to expand into the hybrid cloud.

To move fast, organizations are considering developing developer-ready application services over a hybrid cloud infrastructure. This would make it easier for developers to consume developer-centric services and collaborate with other business teams. The portfolio VMwares Subsidiary, provides this capability by modernizing application delivery on hyperconverged infrastructure.

An HCI-based cloud platform enables IT teams to automate their infrastructure components, making systems easier to build and deploy. Once they do this, the cloud platform allows organizations to use the same on premise system to manage the entire cloud ecosystem, down to the edge and the public cloud.

Next steps

HCI infrastructure is the ideal solution for all possible data center processes, from data retention to disaster recovery activation in the cloud. Organizations start with the following steps:

1. They are evolving it private cloud with the development of full-stack HCI at data center. This will make developers more productive and reduce the time spent on infrastructure management.

2. They extend to hybrid cloud using a fixed operating model private and public cloud. This will allow organizations to move workloads and perform disaster recovery without requiring re-platforming of applications.

3. They ensure the management of its computer, network and other resources hybrid computing infrastructure through an easy-to-use and powerful API.

In Performance Technologies we believe that what shapes an infrastructure strategy, we refer to the needs of developers and app owners. The secret is hidden in the applications. And the road to the future is hyperconverged infrastructure.

About Performance Technologies

Performance Technologies is certified as VMware Principal Partner, the highest level of VMware Partner Partnership. The Company has all the technical certifications and has proven its capabilities in evaluating, designing, implementing, managing and supporting modern Software Defined Data Centers & Networking solutions. In close collaboration with VMware since the early 2000s, it has gradually established itself in Greece as the “specialist in Virtualization” and Cloud Services Building & Automation, having designed, executed and supported projects that utilize these technologies in large companies and public organizations , and acting as a trusted consultant in IT infrastructure transformation using virtualization and private and public cloud services. Performance is the official VMware subcontractor for the provision of services in the above technologies in Greece and is an official VMware training center for Greece and Cyprus. As a VMware Authorized Training Center (VATC) it provides vocational training and certification services in all VMware technologies and solutions.
