Willy Monteiro Duarte, the day of the sentence: the reconstruction of the murder

It was the night between 5 and 6 September 2020. A Colleferroone of the crimes that most affected Italian public opinion took place in Largo Santa Caterina. To lose his life, in a violent beating, the 21 year old Willy Monteiro Duarte. Today comes the sentence of the Assize Court of Frosinone: life imprisonment was requested for the brothers Marco and Gabriele Bianchi and 24 years in prison for the other two defendants Mario Pincarelli and Francesco Belleggia.

What happened that night

In Colleferro the groups of the area between the provinces of Rome and Frosinone meet. There are several clubs. The night of the tragedy begins in one of these. At the Due di Picche around 11.30pm there are the brothers Marco and Gabriele Bianchi, known in the area for fights and beatings, and Mario Pincarelli and Francesco Belleggia, arrived separately. At another table there is a group of Paliano, the village of Willy Monteiro with Federico Zurma and some girls. These are targeted, their chairs are badly moved to get into the bathroom. The Whites leave while Pincarelli remains unimportant a girl from the party.

At 1 and 30 Federico Zurma and Alessandro Rosati are told by the girls who has bothered them. They face them, insults and threats fly. Belleggia punches Zurma who falls. At this moment the Bianchi brothers arrive, who had separated themselves with two girls. They throw themselves into the fight. Now on the square there is also Willy Monteiro, born in Paliano to parents from Cape Verde. He works in a restaurant as a waiter and wants to become a cook. He is on his way home after work. He tries to get his friend Zurma away, but is involved in the fight, targeted, without having done anything, by the two brothers of Artena.

Witnesses say that Gabriele kicks him in the chest with the sole of his foot. Willy is on the ground, unable to get up. Marco Bianchi hits him with kicks and punches. Only his friend Samuele Cenciarelli remains with him. There are witnesses who say that the attackers, including Pincarelli and Belleggia, rage on the body on the ground. It’s 3:23 in the morning. In less than a minute for Willy many blows that bring irreversible damage to internal organs: a crack in the heart and a karate blow to the jugular.

THE Carabinieri they are attracted by the great noise, but when the Bianchi brothers arrive with Tondinelli, Belleggia and Pincarelli are already gone. I’m in the room of the other brother, Alessandro. They immediately block them. The witnesses gave their names and described them.

Investigation and trial

The four accuse each other. The version believed is that of Belleggia, the only one to admit what he did. He is under house arrest, the others in prison. They are all accused of voluntary homicide. According to the prosecutors, they knew that their shots could be fatal. The trial begins on June 10, 2021. The Municipalities of Colleferro, Paliano and Artena form a civil party. The testimonies of 26 boys and girls present that evening are heard. The request is for life imprisonment for the brothers Marco and Gabriele Bianchi, 24 years each for Mario Pincarelli and Francesco Belleggia.
