It is very emotional and validates all the work we are doing,” she said emotionally. Laura Catena, executive director of the winery upon receiving the award.

Founded in 1902, Argentina’s Bodega Catena Zapata is known for its pioneering role in resurrecting the Malbec grape variety and discovering extreme altitude terroirs in the Andean foothills of the city of Mendoza.

From the list, between positions 51 and 100, were emblematic wineries from Spain, Chile, France, United States, Portugal and South Africa. This year, the awards included newcomers from Canada, Hungary, Japan and Slovenia, as well as two wineries from China.

In its third year, the list offers an overview of the best wine experiences. There are no predetermined criteria, in addition to being open to the general public, but there are voting rules that must be respected. Voters are invited to nominate overall experiences that they consider to be the best in the world and would recommend to someone else.

The World’s Best Vineyards list and awards are organized and compiled by William Reed Business Media.

The list is created from the votes of The World’s Best Vineyards Academy, comprised of just under 500 global wine and travel experts. To create the gym, the world is divided into 22 regions, each with a gym chair. The academy presidency recruits 36 voters representing the region.

According to the organizers, at least 25% of the panelists in each region change each year to ensure fresh perspectives.

Each region’s panel is made up of sommeliers, wine journalists, travel experts and frequent wine connoisseurs.
