With a rise in gasoline, the government evaluates transport vouchers for the needy population

President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) is considering creating a temporary transport voucher for needy families that are part of the Federal Government’s Cadastro Único.

The information has been confirmed to CNN Brasil by the Minister of Mines and Energy. Benedict Abulquerque. According to him, however, the source of financing for the new social program has not yet been defined.

The objective of the proposal is to try to reduce the impacts of the increase in the price of gasoline on the vulnerable population. In October, the price of a liter of fuel accumulated an increase of 73% this year.

According to reports made to CNN Brasil by government auxiliaries, one of the possibilities being studied is that funds from the sale of refineries and Petrobras’ clean energy incentive programs be used to finance the provisional benefit.

Last week, the president signed a proposal that created gas aid to help low-income people purchase cooking gas.

The benefit will be paid to families registered in the Federal Government’s Single Registry with monthly per capita income less than or equal to half the minimum wage (R$ 550) or who have someone among their members who receives the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC).

Payment will be made every two months, and the value will be 50% of the national average value of the 13 kg cylinder, which is around R$ 102.
