The 1% growth in Brazilian GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter and of 1.7% compared to the same period in 2021, made the country appear in 9th position in the international ranking of economic activity performance, this time with 32 countries, compiled by the Austin Rating rating agency.
The Brazilian GDP data were released by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), which announced the results of the Quarterly National Accounts this Thursday.
Brazil was ahead of countries like the United Kingdom, which experienced a 0.8% rise in GDP in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the fourth quarter of 2021; South Korea (0.8%), Switzerland (0.5%), Germany (0.2%), France (-0.1%) and Japan (-0.3%) and the United States (-1, 4%).
In addition to these last countries, the list of ten countries with negative results in the quarterly margin also includes Italy (-0.2%), Israel (-0.4%), Sweden (-0.4%), Chile (-0 .8%) and Norway (-0.9%).
The leadership of the ranking was occupied by Peru, which grew 2.0% compared to the previous quarter and 3.8% in the interannual comparison, that is, in the comparison with the first quarter of 2021. Then comes the Philippines (1.9% and 8.3%), Canada (1.6% and 3.3%) and Taiwan (1.6% and 3.1%).
The United States ranked only 28th, with a 1.4% decline in GDP in the first quarter of this year compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, but up 3.6% year-on-year. China ranked 5th, up 1.3% quarterly and 4.8% year-on-year.
Russia is the last place, in 32nd place, without having reported the change in GDP in the first quarter of 2022, but with an increase of 3.5% compared to the same period last year.
Also without having reported the behavior of GDP in the first three months of the year are Saudi Arabia and India, which precede Russia for having advanced 9.6% and 4.1% respectively compared to the same quarter of 2021.
