The Ministry of Health recommended the reinforcement of the bivalent vaccine against Covid-19.
The ministry’s measure took place in response to the confirmation of cases of two new sublineages of a variant of the coronavirus in Brazil: JN.1 and JG.3.
The recommendation is for people aged 60 or over and immunosuppressed people over 12 years of age who received the last dose more than 6 months ago.
A CNN Radio infectious disease specialist Luana Araújo stated that Covid-19 will still be a topic “for a long time.”
“The groups appointed by the Ministry need to take the new dose, they cannot fail to do it”, he warned.
She explained that the “drop in severity” of Covid “did not happen due to the natural evolution of the virus.”
“In fact, it was due to increased protection for the population”, he added.

The infectious disease specialist explained that if an unvaccinated population comes into contact with the virus, it will have “huge damage.”
“The difference now is that the coronavirus finds a population with immunity, so it is important to maintain vaccination”, he reinforced.
