The president of Go-Go Clarício Gonçalves, announced this Wednesday (13) that the the association will distance itself even further from Bixiga and will pass to rehearse on the court Uirapuru da Mooca located in east side of São Paulo . The president, however, reinforced that the Bela Vista school continues to try to return to its original neighborhood.
The news was given in video format published on Vai-Vai’s official Instagram profile. The greatest champion in the history of São Paulo Carnival has been without a fixed block since its headquarters, previously located on Rua São Vicente, was expropriated for the construction of station 14 Bis-Saracura on Line 6-Orange of the subway.
The group has already carried out rehearsals at the Bank Workers’ Union court — close to Praça da Sé — and, since the beginning of work aimed at Carnival 2025, has been using one of the warehouses at Fábrica do Samba, located in Barra Funda, in the west zone of São Paulo.
“Last week, we established a partnership with our co-sister Uirapuru da Mooca, and from this Sunday onwards we will rehearse on their court at [avenida] Salim Farah Maluf until Carnival. I’m counting on you because this is a much more practical and accessible place”, stated Clarício in his speech.
“We know how difficult it is to travel, but now is the time to come together for our pavilion and to deliver a champion carnival in 2025.”
The president of Vai-Vai also reinforced that the school continues to search for a fixed space to rehearse in Bixiga. Due to the expropriation, the school gained land in the neighborhood and later discovered that, due to Master Plan regulations, the space cannot receive a block, as the space is in an area exclusively destined for the construction of popular housing. Since then, the school has been fighting for the City of São Paulo to expropriate the land of Teatro Zácaro, also located in the neighborhood, and exchange the building for the club’s unused land.
“Our commitment, throughout our management, is to continue looking for a space for Vai-Vai on our floor, Bixiga, where we are from and should never have left. It would be a fight for the Zácaro Theater space, we are waiting for feedback to see if we will be so lucky, to see if they accept the partnership with our land”, he declared.
For 2025, Vai-Vai chose a plot about the playwright Zé Celso, one of the main names in Bixiga’s cultural production. It is there that the Teatro Oficina, founded by him, is located. The parade will once again be signed by Sidnei França, a carnival artist who divides the spotlight between the São Paulo school and Estação Primeira de Mangueira.
