Without data from four states and the DF, Brazil has 111 deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Brazil recorded 111 deaths and 13,278 new cases of Covid-19, according to data released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) this Friday (15). The states of Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Roraima, Tocantins and the Federal District did not update the pandemic numbers due to “technical problems in the database”.

According to Conass, information on the numbers of the Covid-19 pandemic, in the states mentioned above, is kept with the numbers that were made available on Thursday (14).

“Data from yesterday was kept due to technical problems in accessing the databases of the information systems”, said Conass.

After this Friday’s update, the country already has 661,907 deaths and 30,247,302 infections by the disease since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020.

In the last seven days, the country has recorded a moving average of 112 deaths per day and 17,620 daily infections by the disease.

São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná are the states that lead in numbers of cases of the disease. In terms of number of deaths, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais are the most affected states, respectively.

Breathalyzer test for Covid-19

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted emergency use authorization for the first Covid-19 test that detects chemical compounds associated with the coronavirus in breath, the agency said on Thursday.

The FDA said the InspectIR Covid-19 breathalyzer, which is about the size of a carry-on bag, can be used in medical offices and mobile testing sites. Results can come out in less than three minutes.

The system separates and identifies chemical mixtures to detect five compounds associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
