Woman arrested for killing sister-in-law with hot oil in Rio de Janeiro

Natalia Barbosa Duarte, 35 years old, who was on the run from the Prison System, was arrested this Thursday afternoon (30), in Belford Roxo, in Baixada Fluminense.

Natalia was convicted of the murder of her sister-in-law, Rita de Cassia de Oliveira Clementino, aged 27. According to the Women’s Special Assistance Police Station (Deam), which handled the case, the crime took place in 2016.

According to investigations, Natalia and her husband threw a pan of hot oil and boiling water on the victim, who was hospitalized for two months before dying.

The suspects were arrested in September 2016, for qualified homicide. Natalia was sentenced to five years in prison. She was entitled to the Periodic Home Visit (VPL) benefit. The inmate left and did not return to prison to serve the remainder of her sentence.

This Thursday, the Military Police arrived at Natalia after information passed on by Hotline. The woman did not resist arrest. She was taken to a prison unit of the Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (SEAP).
