In an interview with CNN the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn, said that “there is a desire in the world to invest again in Latin America”, especially with regard to climate issues, infrastructure and global connectivity.
“There is a worldwide desire to participate in the region,” he declared in Davos, Switzerland, the site of the World Economic Forum.
“The world wants to invest again in Latin America, mainly in the areas of climate, infrastructure, collectivity and digitalization, in the sense of putting everyone connected to include more people, whether financially or socially.”
For Goldfajn, the Latin American region can offer solutions to global problems, such as food supply and clean energy production.
“Latin America can be more than a region that seeks help, but can offer solutions to the rest of the world. I see two very relevant questions. The first is food production, where the IDB can help with agricultural productivity, facilitate transportation… All of this can make food cheaper, even more so when taking into account the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine,” he said.
“Another issue is global warming and protecting the environment.” In his view, the region can become the largest producer of clean energy in the world and become “part of the solution” against climate change.
“The IDB can be the way to help other countries reach that potential”, he declared.
Goldfajn is the first Brazilian to occupy the main chair of the IDB. Check out the full interview in the video above.
