Writer Anne Rice, author of “Interview with the Vampire” dies

American writer Anne Rice, author of “Interview with the Vampire”, died on Saturday, aged 80, from complications resulting from a stroke, announced her son, Christopher Rice.

“I am heartbroken to report that this evening Anne passed away from complications resulting from a stroke,” said the fellow writer in a message on the author’s Facebook page.

Anne Rice, who has written more than 30 novels in the field of fantasy and Gothic literature, will be buried in a private ceremony in the family’s mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, where she was born, added Christopher Rice, quoted by the Associated Press news agencies and EFE.

“Interview with the Vampire,” a 1976 book that was adapted into a film of the same name with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Antonio Banderas, among others, in 1994, was the first in a series called “The Vampire Chronicles” by 13 novels.
