Xiaomi introduced the Loop LiquidCool smartphone cooling technology. How does it work

Attempts to squeeze the maximum performance out of the smartphone in games leads to the fact that the chipset is working at the limit of its capabilities, and the mobile device overheats. That is why many manufacturers began to pay attention to the cooling system, which should help to efficiently remove heat. As you know, the Snapdragon 888 has shown itself to be a fairly hot processor, but the Snapdragon 898 is already looming on the horizon, which has every chance of surpassing its predecessor. Therefore, an effective cooling system for flagship smartphones is now definitely indispensable. And Xiaomi already has something to offer.

Xiaomi has officially announced a new generation of heat dissipation technology called Loop LiquidCool. The company ambitiously calls its solution the technology of the future. It consists of an evaporator, a condenser, a compensation cavity and vapor-liquid pipes. The evaporator is placed in the area of the heat source on the smartphone’s motherboard. When the processor and other heat sources are under heavy load, the coolant vaporizes and directs airflow into the vapor tubes through natural expansion.

Loop LiquidCool uses a capillary effect, whereby the coolant is attracted to the heat source, evaporates, and then efficiently distributes the heat to a colder area until it condenses again and enters the unidirectional loop channel. According to the manufacturer, the new technology is twice as efficient as traditional solutions based on steam chambers. The company claims this is the best smartphone cooler to date. It’s all about the form factor, which allows you to separate the circulation of hot air and coolant, but otherwise the technology is similar to conventional liquid cooling.

Loop LiquidCool was tested on a modified Xiaomi Mi MIX 4. After 30 minutes of playing Genshin Impact at maximum graphics settings and a frame rate of 60 FPS, the device warmed up to 47.7 ° C, which is 8.6 ° C less than with the standard system. cooling. The technology can be used in any device and at the same time rationally use the internal space to accommodate other components. The introduction of Loop LiquidCool in commercial devices will begin in the second half of 2022. The first, most likely, will receive the new flagship of the company Xiaomi MIX 5.
