Xiaomi is testing MIUI Pure Mode to protect against malicious apps

Recently, Xiaomi has actively tackled the MIUI shell, constantly introducing new features and various improvements. The company has already released two updates to its system this year (MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition) and continues to work on other innovations. One of the latest features is MIUI Pure Mode, which should protect users from malicious apps.

Xiaomi said it has received a lot of feedback lately about problems installing apps. Open source Android allows for more free distribution of applications, but it also increases the likelihood of falling victim to attacks that are carried out through malware. The company said that 40% of installed apps on Xiaomi smartphones did not pass security checks, and 10% were found to be potentially dangerous.

MIUI Pure Mode prevents manual installation of applications from unknown sources, and also blocks automatic installation or updating in the background without user consent. Unlike Apple, Xiaomi smartphone owners can disable this feature if they want.

It is not yet clear when MIUI Pure Mode will appear in the MIUI stable version. Currently, Xiaomi is recruiting those wishing to take part in its testing in China, which starts on September 6.
