Yandex Go launched the Together tariff: you can ride the same taxi with a stranger

Today, November 28, the Yandex Go service officially launched a new option in Moscow and St. Petersburg called “Together”, which allows you to travel together with strangers in the same taxi. It is worth noting that the tariff was originally called “Companion Traveler” and was tested by the service since the beginning of the summer of this year, and now the option has been renamed and sent to a full-fledged release, albeit only in two cities of Russia. In addition, right now the user may not have the function of a joint trip – the option is being distributed gradually between all users of the specified locations, this will take some time.

The function works quite simply – the company explained that special algorithms will automatically select fellow travelers with a suitable route so that the taxi driver can pick up the second passenger. At the same time, the developers noted that there can only be two fellow travelers in the vehicle at the same time, and this option will appear in the Economy tariff with a high workload of drivers, since in this scenario the probability of picking up a fellow traveler is much higher. This is quite logical, since customers of more expensive tariff plans are most likely not going to save in this way.

The developers also noted that in fact the opportunity to save is really impressive – the fare for each of the passengers will be less than in the Economy, but the final figure largely depends on many factors. On average, the savings are around 25%, but in certain scenarios, the possible savings are 40%. On the other hand, there are also unpleasant moments – the average trip time grows by 10 minutes, so if a person is in a hurry, then this format will most likely not suit him. But if the company has been testing the tariff since the summer and still decided to introduce it six months later, then, apparently, there is demand.
