Yellen says China trade deal has ‘hurt American consumers’ – NYT

In an interview with the New York Times (NYT) on Friday, the United States Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen has raised concerns about the Sino-US trade deal, citing that some US tariffs hurt consumers.

Tariffs are imposed on consumers. In some cases it seems to me that what we did hurt American consumers, and the kind of deal that the previous administration actually negotiated it did not address in many ways the fundamental problems we have with China“.

In contrast, the spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Gao Feng, said last week that “the first phase of the agreement is good for China, good for the United States and good for the whole world.”
