Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the Paris School of Political Science (Sciences Po), said the war with Russia would have been averted if his country had been a former member of NATO.
“If Ukraine had been a member of NATO before the war, there would not have been a war,” Zelensky told students via video link.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that the danger of Ukraine becoming a member of NATO justifies the invasion of the neighboring country, which began more than two months ago.
At the same time, Zelensky stressed that he wants to regain his country’s territory before the end of the war with Russia, adding that he is still willing for dialogue with Moscow.
“Once we regain what is ours, we will finish it,” he said.
