Zelensky’s speech at the Venice Film Festival – He asked the world of cinema “not to forget the war”

The red carpet was rolled out, the flashes of the photojournalists flashed: the 79th Venice Film Festival, the oldest film festival of the world, started tonight, with official guest Catherine Deneuve and with unexpected appearance of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

The 78-year-old French actress was honored with the Golden Lion for her entire career. Visibly moved, h Deneuvewearing a crimson gown, thanked the audience, having previously knitted her tthe eulogy the French creator Arnaud Deplesin.

What followed was a surprise: on the scene, through a video message, appeared Volodymyr Zelenskyan actor himself, to invite his colleagues and the world of cinema in general “not to forget” the war in his country which “it doesn’t last 120 minutes but 189 days”.

At the end of his speech on the screen, against a black background, appeared a macabre list: the names of all children and teenagers, up to 18 years old, who have been killed so far in the war.
