A 3-year-old girl died in the early hours of last Thursday (16) after spending almost a week in the ICU after being run over by a school bus in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul.
The accident occurred on October 10 in São José do Ouro, a municipality located around 300 kilometers from the capital Porto Alegre. The child was admitted to a hospital in the city of Passo Fundo, but did not survive his injuries.
According to the family’s lawyer, Reginaldo Leonel Ferreira, the girl “got out of the vehicle when the driver started and the girl may have been knocked over by the wheel itself”. “When the vehicle started abruptly, her 7-year-old sister tried to pull her away and screamed, but the driver left the scene without providing assistance,” says Ferreira.
The Rio Grande do Sul Military Brigade reports that, after the accident, corporation agents went to the company where the driver works. The driver would have confirmed that he was driving the vehicle, but, according to the Military Brigade, he stated that he did not realize that the child was run over.
According to the Military Brigade, a breathalyzer test was carried out on the driver, but the result was negative.
