The Porto Alegre Public Market will return to its activities next Friday (14) after being suspended since the beginning of May this year, with the height of the heavy rains that hit the state.
The decision to resume, which will be made gradually, was discussed between representatives of the permit holders and the Municipal Secretariat of Administration and Heritage (SMAP) on Monday afternoon (10). The meeting defined the opening schedule that makes up the Mercado Público complex.
This Friday (14), restaurants on the second floor will operate with reduced opening hours (between 10am and 3pm) and stores with direct access to the street will open again between 8am and 7pm with access only via Avenida Borges de Medeiros, as Some establishments are still in the process of renovation.
The measure, therefore, is a way to ensure better circulation of visitors and employees. However, some activities remain suspended.
The stalls facing Avenida Júlio de Castilhos, for example, will not return to activity, because the Porto Alegre Urban Train Company (Trensurb) did not complete the removal of garbage and water accumulated at the Mercado Station.
Also this Tuesday (11) and Wednesday (12), the market’s internal stores will be pest control and on Thursday (13), the place will receive a visit from Health Surveillance agents with the aim of ensuring good conditions of the establishments for ensure that activities are resumed appropriately.
Next Tuesday (18), the indoor stores on the ground floor should reopen, even though most of them will remain closed as they are still in the process of renovation. According to the Secretary of Administration and Heritage, André Barbosa, this reopening directly depends on the reconstruction schedule of each establishment.
The Market, which has been closed since May 3rd and will reopen 41 days after the flood that hit Rio Grande do Sul, will resume most of its activities from next Tuesday (18th).
Stalls and stores that still need renovation will return to operating during the regulation hours, already applied before the flood (after 7pm).
According to SMAP, the payment of permission holders will remain suspended, regardless of the opening of the stores, due to an agreement already signed with the city hall.
