Algeria: President Tebboune back “in the coming days”

Even if no precise date has been communicated, the presidency of the Algerian Republic indicated, in a press release Monday, November 30, that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune would be back in his country “in the coming days”. He has been hospitalized for a month to be treated for Covid-19. “On the recommendation of the medical team, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is continuing what remains of the recovery period after leaving the specialist hospital in Germany,” the brief statement said.

“On the mend”

“The President of the Republic reassures the Algerian people about their state of health, assures that they are on the mend and that they will return to the country in the coming days”, adds the presidency. The 75-year-old Algerian president was admitted on October 28 to “one of the largest specialized establishments” in Germany after contracting the coronavirus in his entourage.

This is the first health bulletin issued by the Algerian presidency since November 15. The scarcity of information on Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s condition and his prolonged absence abroad have fueled rumors and questions about the direction of Algeria.
