Another 78 Brazilian municipalities, which are close to capitals or cities with more than 500,000 residents, may soon have 5G activated. According to a decision by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), as of Wednesday (25) operators that won lots in the 3.5 GHz band are authorized to apply to the agency for licensing and activations of 5G stations.
According to Anatel, so far, 140 municipalities have already been released to use this range, through which ‘pure’ 5G works. Given this number, 38.5% of the population already has the potential to receive the technology.
The new municipalities released are in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina, Pará, Espírito Santo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia.
Another decision taken by the monitoring group for the implementation of 5G at Anatel also defined a plan to release the range by the end of the semester.
“When hundreds of municipalities will be released, with the forecast that 1610 cities will be reached”, informed the agency.
