ANS includes rapid Covid-19 test in mandatory plans coverage

The National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) approved, this Wednesday (19), the inclusion of the rapid test for the detection of Covid-19 in the list of exams that must have mandatory coverage for beneficiaries of health plans.

The test will be offered to users who have outpatient, hospital or referral plans, based on medical indication in cases of flu-like illness or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The patient must be between the 1st and 7th day of symptoms.

The decision was made by the advancement of the Ômicron variant that caused a high in infections by the coronavirus.

The forecast is that the decision will be published in the Official Gazette (DOU) this Thursday (20). From then on, coverage becomes immediate.

“At this point, we understand that the inclusion of the rapid test for antigen detection can be really useful, given that the rapid tests are more accessible and provide results faster than RT-PCR, for example”. evaluated Paulo Rebello, director-president of ANS.

“Thus, antigen testing can increase detection and accelerate isolation, leading to a reduction in the spread of the disease and, consequently, a decrease in the burden of laboratory services. At the same time, we made the responsible decision to maintain access to the gold standard of diagnostics, RT-PCR,” he continued.
