Prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities has revealed new information regarding Apple’s mixed reality headset. He claims that the company’s upcoming headset will use the same 96-watt USB-C power adapter as the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
Earlier it was reported that Apple’s first mixed reality headset will have performance comparable to Mac computers equipped with the Apple M1 SoC. So it must have a corresponding power supply unit.
Ming-Chi Kuo adds that Apple’s headset will include two processors, or SoCs, from TSMC, the world’s largest contract chip maker. However, one platform will be 4nm, while the other will be manufactured using a 5nm process. A more productive platform will be responsible for image processing and basic information (it is this platform that is comparable in performance to the Apple M1). The second platform will be dedicated to the various sensors and associated headset components.
The source adds that Apple will equip its new headset with an innovative interface and seamless switching between AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) modes. The analyst also said that the headset will be two to three years ahead of the company’s competitors and their offerings in terms of processing power.
Kuo previously announced that Apple’s mixed reality headset will launch in late 2022, but starting stock will be limited.
