Army warns of possible damage from cannon fire in Copacabana

In a statement this Tuesday (6), the Eastern Military Command warned the residents of Copacabana, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, especially those who live closer to the Copacabana Fort, at post 6, that there will be gunfire. of cannons. Starting at 9 am on Wednesday, the 7th of September holiday, the edge of the carioca neighborhood will receive a series of activities in celebration of the Bicentennial of Independence.

In the note, the CML recommends that residents in the vicinity of the fort leave the windows open during the shooting, to avoid damage such as cracks and even broken glass.

“However, during rehearsal on Sept. [domingo]it was found that the salvo shots did not even damage the windows of the Forte de Copacabana close to the shot,” the statement reads.

The artillery fire at Forte de Copacabana will take place every hour, starting at 8 am, according to the CML.

From 9 am, there is a forecast of a Naval Parade with the participation of ships from the Brazilian Navy and from friendly countries, departing Recreio dos Bandeirantes, towards the Guanabara Bay.

In the afternoon, starting at 1 pm, the CML is planning a commemorative ceremony to commemorate 200 years of Brazilian Independence on Avenida Atlântica, at the height of Avenida Rainha Elizabeth, in Copacabana, close to the fort.

The ceremony is expected to include an air show by the CEU Squadron and the presentation of music bands from the Marines, the 1st Guards Battalion, the Brazilian Air Force and the Military Police of Rio.

Next, it is the turn of the free-jump team of the Parachute Infantry Brigade, “Os Cometas” – reinforced by members of the Brazilian Air Force’s “Equipe Falcão”, to perform a jump demonstration with landing on Copacabana beach. Then the Sky Squadron performs acrobatics across the sky of Copacabana.

At 4:00 pm, approximately the time of the Proclamation of Independence, the Brazilian Fleet and Artillery stationed at Fort Copacabana must execute 21-gun salutes in honor of Brazil’s Bicentennial of Independence.
