Arrested suspected of murdering psychologist in office in RN

A 41-year-old man was arrested red-handed this Wednesday (24) suspected of murdering psychologist Fabiana Maia Veras, 42, in the municipality of Assú, in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte. The crime occurred late yesterday afternoon, inside Fabiana's office, in the Dom Elizeu neighborhood.

Civil police officers from the 97th Police Station of Assú, the Homicide and Personal Protection Division (DHPP) and the Qualified Investigation Center (NIQ) carried out the arrest in the Nova Descoberta neighborhood, south zone of the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, Natal.

According to the state's Civil Police Social Communication Secretariat, investigations indicate that the suspect arrived at the property where the victim worked at around 5pm last Tuesday (23). He was hooded, with masks and surgical gloves.

A few hours later, that same night, the psychologist's body was found by an employee, who immediately called the Civil Police team on duty.

The man began to be monitored and identified as the main suspect in the investigation early this afternoon. He was located in one of his properties in Natal, more than 200 km from where he committed the crime, and tried to escape, being arrested.

The police's main hypothesis points to a crime of passion as the motivation for the homicide. Forensics were called in to carry out forensic examinations and the man is being taken to the Assú Police Station for the arrest to be drawn up.
