In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ben Affleck told what actually happened.
“I had fun at the Grammys. My wife was going and I thought, ‘Well, there’s going to be some good music, maybe it’ll be fun,’” she said.
According to Affleck, when he saw Trevor Noah approaching, he thought “My God” and, not knowing that they were already being filmed, told his wife that, as soon as they started recording, he would walk away and leave her sitting next to the presenter. .
“She said ‘it’s good that you’re not going’. This is a husband and wife thing,” she stated.
The actor commented that he doesn’t mind the memes, but wasn’t happy with the suggestion that he was drunk. Affleck struggles with alcoholism and has been sober for a few years.
“I’ve been to award shows and got drunk several times. No one ever noticed. [Mas no Grammy] they said, ‘He’s drunk,'” he said.
Affleck says it got him thinking about whether or not it’s wise to speak publicly about battling an addiction, because while there’s compassion, there’s also a lot of stigma.
“I think that discourages people from improving their lives,” he added.
