The President of the United States, Joe Biden, issued a note this Friday morning (2) praising the US Senate for having approved, shortly before, a Leoi project to suspend the country’s debt ceiling until 2025.
The measure had been approved in the House on Wednesday (31), with 314 votes in favor and 117 against, and will now be sent to Biden to be sanctioned.
“I look forward to signing this bill into law as soon as possible and addressing it directly to the American people tomorrow,” the president wrote.
Biden mentioned that tonight, “senators from both parties voted to protect hard-won economic progress.”
Suspension of the debt limit until 2025 eliminates the threat of default until after the presidential election. According to Biden, the senators “once again demonstrated that America is a nation that pays its bills and fulfills its obligations.”
Still according to the president, the approved project “protects people’s health care and retirement security, protecting fundamental programs” in the area of social security. “He [o projeto] protects vital investments in hard-working families that help make our country stronger – from childcare and education to public safety.”
“Our work is far from over, but this agreement is a critical step forward and a reminder of what is possible when we act in the best interests of our country,” added Biden.
