NATO is more united than ever after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, US President Joe Biden said in Madrid.
The Alliance will defend every inch of NATO territory, the US President warned on the third and final day of the Atlantic Alliance summit.
The US president also announced Washington’s intention to announce additional $ 800 million in military aid to Ukraine, saying the United States was mobilizing the world to side with Ukraine.
The US president added that Russia is paying a heavy price for its invasion of Ukraine.
He said he had told his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan that Washington should sell F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, but that it would require congressional approval. Biden said he believed Congress would approve the sale of the F-16s.
He rejected proposals that Washington’s support for the sale was in exchange for lifting Turkey’s veto on Sweden and Finland joining NATO: “What I said was, I said in December, as you will remember, you should “We will sell F-16 aircraft and modernize these jets as well,” he said. “It is not in our interest not to do that.”
“And there was no reward with that. We just had to sell, but I need congressional approval to be able to do that. And I think we can do that.”
