Technology group Bosch will invest 3 billion euros in microchip production by 2026, including the opening of two new development centers and the expansion of the factory in Dresden, the company announced.
In particular, as reported by Reuters, the investment for which Bosch will seek funding from the EU is expected to boost European microchip production capacity in a market dominated by US and Asian players.
“Europe can and should build on its own strengths in the semiconductor industry,” said Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung. “The goal should be to produce microchips for the needs of European industry.”
Bosch last year opened a €1 billion microchip factory in Dresden, a record investment, as it seeks to gain market share in self-driving and electric vehicle equipment.
