Brazil at COP 26, end of public restrictions in SP and more than November 1st

Brazil’s participation in COP 26 and the end of public restrictions in the state of São Paulo are some of the highlights of this Monday morning, November 1, 2021.

Pandemic

Brazil ends October with the lowest monthly number of deaths by Covid-19 of the year. There were 11,075 victims of the disease. With this update, the country has a total of 607,824 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

State of SP

As of today, the state of São Paulo withdraws public restrictions to contain the dissemination of the coronavirus. Shows with people standing are allowed, nightclubs and full return of the fans in the stadiums.

Firefighters are investigating the collapse of a cave that caused nine deaths in the interior of São Paulo. Rescue work has been completed. The wakes of the victims will be today. Another 15 people were buried.

COP 26

Environment Minister Joaquim Leite speaks today at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change – COP 26 – in Glasgow, Scotland. Until next week, world leaders, activists and scientists are meeting to discuss issues about the climate crisis. Countries are required to show how they are going to meet the goals defined six years ago, in the Paris Agreement.

Bolsonaro

Despite not appearing in person, President Jair Bolsonaro will participate in COP 26 by video. The expectation is that, during the speech, he will announce that Brazil is going to raise the goal of reducing greenhouse gases by 2030.
