Britain has sanctioned 16 members of Russian cybercrime gang Evil Corp, the government announced today, in a coordinated action alongside the US and Australia. “Today’s sanctions send a clear message to the Kremlin that we will not tolerate Russian cyberattacks – whether they come from the state itself or from the criminal cyber ecosystem,” Foreign Secretary David Lammy said in a statement. The cyber activity of the Evil Corp group involved “a specific attempt to defame the UK health system, government and public sector organisations”, the government says. Maxim Viktorovich Yakubevich, Artyom Viktorovich Yakubevich and Viktor Grigorievich Yakubevich are among those targeted under the new sanctions, which include asset freezes and a travel ban.
