In the first week of meetings at COP26, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, Brazil took over new appointments to combat climate change: the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions rose from 43% to 50% in 2030. The country also adhered to a new goal: to reduce emissions by 30%. methane emissions, which, in the Brazilian case, come mainly from livestock. And the Brazilian delegation also brought forward from 2030 to 2028 the goal of ending illegal deforestation.
In this episode of CNN Mundo, Lourival Sant’Anna presents a series of analysis and expert testimony on the most important discussions of COP26. One of the main issues is to what extent the ambitious goals presented by the Brazilian government are feasible. Another highlight is the announcement by conference organizers that companies around the world have $130 trillion available for programs with environmental concerns. The episode also addresses the promise of a specific $19 billion program for forest protection and restoration.
