Depp testifies for the second time: “No matter what happens, I told the truth”

Johnny Depp gave evidence to refute statements previously given by witnesses, including Amber Heard stating that his ex-wife has assaulted him on several occasions and that her accusations of violence against him are “heinous”.

Heard previously testified that it was Depp who hit her, and whenever she used force, it was in reaction to him. On Wednesday, Depp said Heard’s allegations of physical and sexual violence “got out of control.”

“I have never in my life committed sexual assault, physical abuse. All these bizarre, outrageous stories of me committing these things,” Depp testified. “So this isn’t easy for any of us. I know that. No matter what, I got here and told the truth. And I’ve been defending what I’ve been reluctantly carrying on my back for six years.”

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million, alleging that a 2018 “Washington Post” op-ed she wrote, calling herself “a public figure representing domestic abuse,” defamed the actor and caused him to lose his Hollywood job.

Heard has filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit over statements made by a lawyer for Depp, who called his abuse allegations a “hoax”.

On Wednesday, Depp saw a photo of himself with a black eye while he and Heard were on the Orient Express for their honeymoon and asked how he got hurt.

“Mrs. Heard hit me,” he testified.

When Heard testified earlier this month, she shared her perspective on several alleged violent incidents with Depp. She testified that Depp took around 8-10 pills of MDMA around the time of a March 2015 incident in Australia that left Depp with a badly injured finger.

Depp said that consuming too many pills would not be possible for him during the deposition.

“Because I would be dead. I’m sure I would be dead,” Depp testified. “I think I would die. Probably pretty fast.”

Heard testified that he didn’t know Depp had injured his finger until several hours later. Depp testified that his fingertip was cut after Heard threw a glass bottle of vodka at him.

A text message from Depp to his doctor at the time read: “I cut off the top of my middle finger… What should I do!??”. Depp testified that, when being examined by the doctor hours later at the house where he was staying, he told him what happened.

“When you saw the damage to the house and the blood everywhere and obviously there was serious damage everywhere, it would make no sense to lie to the man. He’s been through this with me and Mrs. Heard before,” testified Depp. “I told him that she threw a bottle of vodka and it broke and cut my finger. My fingertip. A good chunk. I miss.”

An orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hand surgery who was hired by Heard’s team as an expert witness said in testimony Monday that Depp’s finger injuries were not consistent with his claim that Heard hit his hand with a glass vodka bottle, something Depp disputed.

“This is all the first bottle that exploded when it crossed my mind,” testified Depp, pointing to a photo of the scene. “And the second bottle hit right here where my hand was resting on the marble bar.”

Depp is expected to continue testifying in cross-examination after a lunch break.

Kate Moss witness

Model Kate Moss virtually testified from England as a witness for Depp, telling the jury he never pushed her down the stairs.

Moss, who testified for less than three minutes, said she had a romantic relationship with Depp from 1994 to 1998. The actor’s team called her as a rebuttal witness in response to Heard’s testimony.

“He attacked Whitney, and I heard a rumor, a vague rumor, about it,” Heard testified on May 17.

On Wednesday, Moss testified under oath that the rumor was false – that the then-couple went to Jamaica during their relationship and that at one point in the trip, there was a storm and Moss fell down a ladder and injured his back.

“We were leaving the room and Johnny got out before me and there was a storm and when I went to get out I slipped down the stairs and hurt my back,” Moss said. “I screamed because I didn’t know what had happened to me and I was in pain and he ran back to help me and carried me to my room and gave me medical attention.”

Depp’s attorney asked Moss if Depp ever pushed her down the stairs during their relationship.

“No. He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down the stairs,” testified Moss.

Kate Moss was not questioned by Heard’s legal team.

The trial has been ongoing for six weeks, with a one-week break in between. Final arguments are expected by the end of the week.
