Digital markets: The Commission defines Booking as a “pillar” and initiates a market investigation regarding X

Today the European Commission designated, under the Digital Markets Act, Booking as a pillar in relation to the online mediation service Booking.com, while it decided not to designate X Ads and TikTok Ads as pillars. In parallel, the Commission launched a market investigation to assess the rebuttal submitted for the online social networking service X. Today's decisions follow the review process carried out by the Commission after receiving on 1 March 2024 the notifications of the three companies regarding the possible their status as pyloric. Based on a self-assessment, submitted by Booking on 1 March 2024, according to which it meets the relevant thresholds, the Commission found that this core platform service is an important gateway between businesses and consumers.
