The Government of São Paulo imposed this Friday (17), via Procon, a fine of R$ 12.7 million against Enel Distribuição for the lack of energy and for failing to comply with the legal duty to provide essential services. At the beginning of this month, almost all the cities that make up the Greater São Paulo region were left without electricity due to heavy rains.
The report pointed out that a large number of residents were without electricity for at least 48 hours. According to the Procon-SP decision, the infraction has the maximum value provided for in the Consumer Protection Code and is based on complaints made since November 3rd, when the storm occurred.
Just this week, the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), said on the agenda that he asked the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) to cancel the concession contract with Enel.
The energy company was contacted, but has not responded so far.
