Entry into the UK is changing: Will only be allowed with an ETA travel authorization or electronic visa

The UK has changed its entry regulations for foreign nationals, with the result that an ETA or electronic visa is now required. The entry change will come into effect from 27 November 2024 for non-EU citizens, while for Europeans it will apply from 5 March 2025. The new measure naturally excludes British and Irish citizens. The GOV.UK website will provide information about the ETA and will reportedly be digitally linked to the traveller’s passport to ensure stronger security checks are carried out. The ETA will cost £10 (€12) and will allow multiple trips to the UK for stays of up to 6 months at a time over 2 years or until the holder’s passport expires. It is noted that a similar system is used in the USA and Australia.
