A large fire hit, this Thursday (16), the Mandela favela, north of Campo Grande (MS), and destroyed the shacks of almost 40 families, according to the Fire Department. The causes of the tragedy are still unknown.
After losing belongings in the fire, community residents have used social media to ask for donations of basic items. Campo Grande City Hall and Central Única das Favelas (Cufa) are receiving donations of items or money to be delivered to community residents.
Donations can be made at Avenida Fabio Zahran, 6.000, Vila Carvalho neighborhood, or at the Family Health Unit (USF) Estrela do Sul, on Rua Maria Stuart.
According to the city hall, food, personal hygiene items, disposable diapers, mineral water, cleaning products, clothes, mattresses, bed and bath linen, construction materials and other basic need items can be donated.
Causes of the fire are not yet known
According to the Mato Grosso do Sul Fire Department, the military was called at 11:02 am on Thursday (16). The first vehicle arrived at 11:10 am and immediately began fighting the fire, which took more than 2 hours to extinguish.
According to the corporation, controlling the flames was made difficult by the proximity between the houses, which were mostly made of wood. In total, around 20 soldiers were deployed to respond to the incident.
Until the last update of this report, the cause of the fire was not yet known. There are no missing people, and only one man required medical attention. He was transferred by SAMU to a hospital unit and his life is not at risk.
