According to the “Demisexuality Resource Center”, a research center specializing in the subject, “demisexual” is a sexual orientation in which the person is only sexually attracted to people with whom he has some kind of emotional connection.
However, even if a bond is formed, it does not guarantee that the person will feel the desire to have sex.

Recently, the subject surfaced again because actor Bruno Gagliasso, husband of actress Giovanna Ewbank, said, in an interview with the newspaper O Globo, that he was surprised by the woman’s sexual orientation: “I learned from the program that she was demisexual. I laughed a lot. I called her: ‘You mean you’re demisexual?’
In September 2022, she had confessed in her podcast with Fernanda Paes Leme “Quem pode, pod”, that before her husband – with whom she has been married for 12 years – she had an intimate relationship with four other men. She even revealed that her mother encouraged her to “enjoy life”, but that she didn’t feel like being with other people.
Other artists have also “come out” as demisexual recently. Actress Bruna Marquezine, despite not having spoken openly about her sexual orientation, said, also in conversation on “Quem pode, pod”, that she thought she was asexual and sex was “underrated”.
The list of celebrities who say they are demisexual is extensive. The influencer Álvaro Xaro also admitted, in an interview, that he counts on his fingers the people with whom he had intimate relationships and that he prefers to get involved after developing an emotional connection.
Victor Hugo, who participated in the 2020 edition of the BBB, said, on a TV show, that in addition to needing to “be in love” with someone to have sex, he is also romantically interested in both sexes.
Demisexuality and Asexuality
When talking about demisexuality, each case is different. For some, it may take several years of friendship, while for others, an intense experience in a short time may be enough to feel comfortable having sex with someone.
For experts, demisexuals are on the spectrum of asexuals – those who have no interest in sex or any kind of sexual attraction.
Most demisexuals are only attracted to a few people in their lives, sometimes even just one. But what makes them different from asexuals is that they are capable of being sexually attracted to someone as long as they form an emotional connection with the person.
