O Google will launch a new tool that promises to facilitate the removal of personal information of the search. The information was released by the technology company this Tuesday (11) during an event in São Paulo.
The objective of the new feature would be to help people maintain control of their personal information, privacy and security online and is in line with national legislation, which guarantees the protection of user data .
With the tool Privacy in results about you now available in Brazil, it will be possible to remove information such as home address, telephone number, email, among others
Additionally, from now on, Google will also notify users when there are results matching the data removed from the search.
For data that you prefer to keep private, you can quickly ask Google to remove it, directly from the tool itself.
The feature can be accessed in the Google app by clicking on the user’s account photo and selecting “Privacy in Results about you”. And you can also access it by clicking on the three dots next to the individual results in the search.
After the withdrawal request, Google checks whether this information appears in the search results and whether there are new results about the user. The information will appear in the “Results to analyze” tab and there you can make removal requests.
“Of course, removing this information from search doesn’t remove it from the internet, but this is an important step to help protect people online,” explains Royal Hansen, global vice president of Privacy and Security at Google.
Another novelty is that, later this year, Brazil will be one of the first countries to have the tool extended to official identification documents such as CPF, driver’s license and passport.
Step by step to use the tool
- Access “Privacy in Results About You” on your computer, go to goo.gle/resultsaboutyou. On mobile devices, open the Google app and tap your profile photo. Then select “Privacy in Results about you”.
- Add your contact details After you add your contact details in settings, let’s check whether this information appears in the search results.
- View your results The tool will show you a list of Google search results that contain your personal information. You can see the title and source of each result and open the web page.
- Request removal of unwanted results If you find a result that contains your personal information and do not want it to appear in the search, click the three dots next to the result and select “Remove”. Google will review your request and remove it from search results if it meets the removal criteria.
