Hamas releases sixth group of hostages; truce can be extended

Hamas released the sixth group of hostages this Wednesday (29). This comes after the radical Islamic group released two Russian women this Wednesday.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), there are 10 Israelis and four Thais in this group. They are on their way to Israel.

The release of the two Russian hostages is not part of the current agreement with Hamas, according to the IDF. The radical group pointed out that they were released after negotiations with the Kremlin.

During the first five days of the truce, Hamas released 81 hostages, mainly women and children. In return, Israel released 180 Palestinians from prison, mainly women and minors, many of whom were detained but never charged.

In addition, negotiations to extend the truce again are underway. A prominent Qatari mediator told CNN who is “very optimistic” that the extension of the conflict pause will be announced.

However, the CNN reported earlier on Wednesday that Red Cross officials have not yet been authorized to visit the hostages Hamas is holding in the Gaza Strip, according to multiple sources.

This act would be a violation of the current agreement with Israel, which stipulated that the Red Cross could visit the hostages until the end of the fourth day of truce.
