The al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said on Saturday (8) that some hostages were killed in the operation that Israel carried out to free other detainees in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp and nearby areas in the center of the Gaza Strip.
Israel, “by committing horrific massacres, managed to free some of its hostages, but killed others during the operation,” said the spokesman for the al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Ubaida, in a statement on his Telegram channel.
Israeli forces rescued four hostages held by Hamas this Saturday. More than 200 Palestinians were killed in airstrikes in the same area, according to Hamas officials, in what would be one of the worst Israeli attacks of the war.
It was not immediately clear whether the hostage rescue and the Israeli airstrike were part of the same operation, but both took place in Gaza’s al-Nuseirat, an area with lots of construction and which has seen several clashes.
This Saturday’s “operation will pose a great danger to enemy hostages and will have a negative impact on their conditions and lives,” Abu Ubaida added.
There was no comment from Israel on the matter.
