Harrison Butker, mansplaining and why we don't need another man to tell us what to do

Harrison Butker28 year old football player for i Kansas City Chiefswinning team of the last one Super Bowlduring the graduation speech, at the Catholic university Benedictine Collegeexpressed some considerations or rather, some beliefs, problematic to say the least, on the role of women in society.

Brace yourselves, a wave of mansplaining is coming.

First of all, she stated: «I think it is you, women, who have received the most diabolical lies. Some of you may have successful careers in the world, but I dare say most of you are more excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into the world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabel would be the first to say that her life truly began when she began to live her calling as a wife and mother.”

Well yes, imagine being a woman one step away from finally holding your diploma, after years of lessons, study, exams, theses and hard work and hearing yourself say that, in the end, it was all in vain, a diabolical distraction from her ultimate goal and true ambition: to be a wife and mother.

Clearly, if getting married and having children is your dream and your goal, it is more than legitimate and deserves the same support as those who want to make a career or, why not, don't want to give up either of the two options. What It's hard to digest is for a man to tell you that that is the only road to happiness and fulfillment if you are a woman.

Furthermore, speaking for your wife and confidently stating that her life began and was noteworthy, not from the moment she was born but, from the moment she gave birth to someone, is not only sexist and selfish but also, if you like, not very romantic. Thus, your partner exists only as a wife and a mother, as a supporter in the stands of the match of your life, without ever taking the field to play her own.

Harrison Butker, in fact, continues: «Today I am on stage and I can be the man I am because I have a wife who relies on her vocation. I am beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in middle school music class converted to the faith, she became my wife and embrace one of the most important titles of all: housewife.”

Speaking of faith, housewives who actually carry out extremely tiring work without receiving any compensation should always be praised but the time has come to put an end to this story of the Red Cross nurse woman who is worthy of gratitude only as the one who does not create further problems for her “talented” husband who, after taking his satisfaction away from home, expects to find it clean upon his return.

Here too, if you are a housewife because it is your vocation, why not? What is wrong and chauvinistic is that it is considered necessary for women to enthusiastically embrace that role, just to be able to allow their man to succeed in other areas.

As the icing on the cake, which has the spoiled flavor of all those backward beliefs that we hoped to have left behind, Harrison Butker is concerned about “the dangerous gender ideologies being introduced to young Americans.” Because we know, freedom is sometimes even scarier than cheap guns.

But it doesn't end here, he then turns to men saying: «Don't apologize for your masculinity, fight against this culture that tries to make men less masculine, do what is difficult, don't settle for the easy things».

It's surprising how mansplaining can even be used against oneself. Praying to toxic masculinity is a double-edged sword that also scars men, forced to always be strong, don't crynot showing signs of weakness, not being able to desire to be loving fathers who actually take care of their children as much as mothers, having to perform in their career in order to feel worthy of love and respect.

It's as if they forced you (or you forced yourself) to wear a period costume instead of having a wardrobe full of other possibilities that could, why not, fit you better and be less tight.

Harrison Butker doesn't even spare us his ideas on abortion which he considers “murder of innocent children”, he then also condemns surrogacy and in vitro fertilization because “there is nothing more wrong than playing at being God”.

Apparently, in 2024, women who choose what to do with their bodies are exalted who think they take on the role of God, while men who, like him, dictate moral law over them, instead, by what superior divine power do they think they are being run over? What generates even more discomfort is that these words were not pronounced by a 95 year old who perhaps comes from another cultural heritage and a different society, but from a young 28 year old, demonstrating how certain ideologies are still well rooted in the minds of many (not all, fortunately).

The NFL (National Football League) he distanced himself writing: «His opinions are not ours. The NFL is steadfast in its commitment to inclusion, which makes our league stronger.”

We advise Harrison Butker to have a chat in the locker room with his teammate Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift's boyfriend, evidently not threatened by the pop star's global success, and to listen to the song on loop The Man.
