Holy Week: two prisoners and a trader sentenced for irregular sale of fish

A trader was arrested this Wednesday (27) at the Niterói Fish Market, one of the most traditional in Rio de Janeiro, for making a false statement. According to police officers from the Special Police against Consumer Crimes, he claimed to be selling a species of crustacean as if it were another of greater value. The merchant will be released for the crime.

During the inspection, which had the support of the city's Health Surveillance, the agents verified compliance with the shrimp and lobster closure, which runs until April 30. Furthermore, on an educational basis, the action guided traders on good practices for handling and storing fish.

During the week leading up to Good Friday, when Catholics usually do not eat red meat but rather fish, the Rio Civil Police carried out a series of educational and inspection activities in commerce.

On Tuesday (26), two owners of an irregular fish distributor in Vargem Grande, in the west zone of Rio, were arrested. At the location, agents found a vast quantity of fish without specifying their expiration date or origin. Around 100 kilos of fish unfit for consumption were discarded.

On Monday (25), a large frozen fish industry was inspected in Duque de Caxias, with the support of inspectors from the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture.
