Huawei held the Huawei Developer Day conference in Moscow today. And within the framework of the conference, the first contactless payment in Russia was solemnly held with smart watches of the Huawei Watch 3 series (review) using the “Wallet” application.
We will remind, just a week ago, Huawei announced that the Huawei Pay payment system became available on Huawei Watch 3 in Russia. So what is the meaning of today’s “innovation”?
The thing is that as part of the current offer, owners of Huawei Watch 3 and Huawei Watch 3 Pro will need to link their UnionPay card to the Huawei Wallet application. You can pay for services using UnionPay credit or debit cards (the national payment system of China) of the following banks: Gazprombank, Solidarity, Rosselkhozbank and Vostochny.
Now Huawei has shown how, using the proprietary Wallet Pay service, users can add card details of international payment systems Mastercard or Visa to make purchases using the Huawei Watch 3. This can be done both in Russia and abroad.
The Wallet Pay service works in the Wallet application – it will be preinstalled on Huawei smartwatches in Russia and Belarus. Unlike the already available Huawei Pay, Wallet Pay will only become available to Huawei smartwatch owners in the first quarter of 2022.
